Mercia Robotics is the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team from Mercia School. Our students learn engineering, coding, and teamwork by designing competitive robots. We compete in the annual FTC challenge and also run outreach sessions to inspire younger students.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a prestigious international program founded in 1989 to ignite scientific curiosity and innovation. This year, our team of 17 driven young adults will compete against over 60 teams from across the UK to design and build an autonomous robot over the course of 9 months — culminating in a high-stakes national challenge in London.
At Mercia, we’ve built a reputation for excellence in robotics. Our team has earned awards, nominations, and recognition through years of dedication and performance. This season, we’re proud to field a well-balanced group of scholars, each bringing exceptional talent in coding, engineering, design, media, and outreach. While our skills are diverse, we’re united by a shared passion for science and a relentless drive to solve complex problems creatively.
